The wembley stadium elevated walkways which date back to the 1970s are set to be removed if recently submitted plans are approved. In documents submitted to the London borough of Brent which include the regeneration of Wembley Park plans to replace the pedway with spanish steps. The main approach for pedestrians from Wembley Park to the iconic stadium takes spectators along Olympic Way.
The monolithic pedways dates back to the 1970s which elevates 9m betweeen Olympic Way and the Piazza outside the stadium itself. The pedway itself is 18.3m wide at the upper level and splits into two fingers when descending to Olympic Way.
The planning application proposes the phased removal of this concrete brute. First the spanish steps would be built first with the pedway being removed at a later point in time , as seen below.
However in the meantime there are suggestions to what could be done with the space under the pedway prior to it’s demolition , with many precedents giving the developers Quintain plenty of options.
